Gretchen Sleicher is a singer, songpasser, songwriter and facilitator of The Work That Reconnects, who lives in Port Townsend, Washington. With the help of webmaestro Dennis Rivers, she created this Songs For the Great Turning website to help spread songs that bring us together and sing us into a new life-sustaining society.
Gretchen has worked with Joanna Macy, attending several multi-day workshops with her over the past 12 years, including two week-long retreats for facilitators of The Work That Reconnects. She delights in weaving group singing and harmony-making into her workshop facilitation, to enhance the meaning and message with the joy of collective song.

Singing in the Great Turning – Introductory version, 1.5 – 2 hours

Sing easy-to-learn songs that are rhythmically and melodically interesting, that get us singing together in harmony instantly, and that encapsulate the teachings of eco-philosopher Joanna Macy on the Great Turning. Get a taste of some of the interactive group practices developed by Joanna, known as The Work That Reconnects. Participants will come away with songs to share in their home communities, as well as a deeper understanding of the dimensions of the Great Turning.
Singing in the Great Turning – evening + full day version
Appropriate for groups of 8 – 50 participants wanting to explore The Work That Reconnects with an emphasis on group singing
We engage in interactive group practices developed by eco-philosopher Joanna Macy –known as The Work That Reconnects– to help us uncover and experience our innate connections with each other and with the systemic, self-healing powers in the web of life, so that we may be enlivened and motivated to play our part in creating a sustainable society. Complementing these practices, we join our voices in easy-to-learn songs that get us singing together in harmony instantly, and that encapsulate Joanna’s teachings on the Great Turning. Participants will come away with a clearer sense of their gifts for the Great Turning, and songs to enliven their journey.

Songleading at events
Enliven and build connection and community at any size gathering, with group singing. Gretchen will get even “non-singers” joining their voices in songs that are meaningful and easy to learn and that create harmony instantly. Repertoire carefully chosen for the occasion: activist events, professional conferences, weddings, memorials, rites of passage, seasonal celebrations, birthdays, ceremonies of honoring.
